I’ve been looking into the current state of affairs on American food. I want to be fully prepared for the total disarray when I go back to the US (Way too soon, btw.)
I just saw a tweet from Slashfood about the newest American vice from Taco Bell. It’s called the XXL Chalupa. Fitting. According to Google Translate, Chalupa means Boat in Spanish and Cottage in Czech.
Overseas if you mention that someone is, “as big as a house,” or, “like a large boat,” they usually think of American or other Western people.
There seems to be this extreme fetish in the US with making the “food” larger and larger while becoming less and less like food.
The photo shows the original Chalupa from Taco Bell below and the new XXL Chalupa on the top.
According to Taco Bell’s website this monstrosity contains 650 Calories, 1300mg Sodium, and 54 grams of Carbs. Ugh! It has as much Protein as my Protein shake but the rest of the crap inside doesn’t make it worth it.
From Slashfood: “It tasted just like their regular chulapa, only there was much more to eat.” and “Tastes like everything else on Taco Bell's menu.”
I’m willing to try some CRAZY food, but I think this is something I won’t bother with. Now if it was made from scratch with REAL food then, yeah, I’d take a bite or two. There’s a big difference in trying things made from natural ingredients that seem a bit out of your comfort zone, and trying processed chemicals…
Tell me, would you eat this?

The bigger servings are just too big. I like to sometimes order the kid meals just so I don't get too much and have to throw it away. Such a waste sometimes.
